VOLUNTEER PROFILES

Donald Kesleth

This is Donald Kelseth. He is a Senior Companion with our program. He has
been a SC for2 years. Here is what he has to say:

"It gives me a great sense of satisfaction to be of assistance to caregivers
who are on call 24/7. It enables them to have time for themselves, a
respite, if you will."

Sally McKnight

This is Sally McKnight. She is a foster Grandparent at Titan Hill
Intermediate in Council Bluffs. She has been a FG for 7 years. Here is a
short summary of what she thinks of the program:

"Being able to help just one child understand what she reads is worth so
much more than all the money in the world. It helps the child feel good
about herself and builds her self-esteem so she will be able to face the
world with her head held high. It makes this grandma feel that it's
worthwhile."

Jan Rollins

Hi, I'm (Barbara Janice) "Jan" Rollins of Council Bluffs, IA. I have been a Senior Corps Volunteer since December 2008. I have also volunteered for a local Hospice and am currently on the Advisory Board of SW8 Senior Services. After an early retirement and move to the Big Stone Lake area in SD in 1985, I served on the Baord of Directors of Millbank, SD Hospice for 5 years before moving back to Iowa in 2005 to be closer to my family following my husband Robert's death from Heart Disease and my battle with Breast Cancer. During those final years I became very aware of the need for comforting companionship in the lives of some eldery and infirmed who simply cannot afford the services of for-profit professional organizations. SW8 provides those services through dedicated volunteers. I enjoy staying busy with that volunteering and my part-time employment at McMullen Ford as their evening receptionist.
