What is the Grandparents Caring for Grandchildren Program?
The Grandparents Caring for Grandchildren Program is intended to assist grandparents or relatives who are 55 years or older and are caring for a child 18 years or younger.
Southwest 8’s Grandparents Caring for Grandchildren Program is intended to provide information to grandparents about available services, and assist them in gaining access to those services. Such services can include individual counseling, support groups, assistance in the areas of health, nutrition, financial literacy, and in making decisions and solving problems re-lated to their role as a primary caregiver for a child.
I am interested in this program! How does Grandparents caring for Grandchildren work?
For an eligible grandparent or relative caregiver financial assistance may be made available to assist the grandparent in providing for the child in ways they are currently unable to do so. Southwest 8 Senior Services will reimburse for services the grandparent has established they are unable to afford. The family selects a service, program, or project they wish to participate in and submits an application to Southwest 8 for approval. Approval for reimbursement must be sought before the service, program or project has started or is attended. Southwest 8 Senior Services WILL NOT reimburse caregivers for a service, program or project that does not have prior approval.
