  • Helping at Senior Centers

    - Assistance with meal service
    - Assistance with programming and entertainment
    - Teaching a class
    - Fundraising
    - Delivering meals from senior center

  • Helping Homebound Elderly

    - Delivering meals to seniors
    - Escorting seniors to health care/medical appointments
    - Visiting to offer comfort or help
    - Transporting seniors for errands
    - Providing telephone or card-writing assurance
    - Assisting with repair and weatherization for low-income seniors to ensure safety
    - Providing snow removal and lawn mowing

  • Helping with Elder Rights

    - Serving as a nursing home ombudsman or resident advocate to resolve disputes and safeguard the dignity and well-being of the residents
    - Counsel seniors on health insurance and Medicare through the Senior Health Insurance Information Program
    - Educate senior citizens about Medicare fraud, waste and abuse prevention, and alerting the elderly and the entire public about current scams targeting seniors

  • Helping with Senior Benefits

    - Assist seniors with filling out paperwork in order to obtain the various available benefit programs
    - Driving seniors to appointments to enable them to obtain benefits

  • Advocacy Roles

    - Policy Board of Directors for Southwest 8 Senior Services (Elected Position) This is the governing body of the agency. The decisions of this board have a direct impact on the lives of southwest Iowa's seniors.
    - Advisory Council (Elected Position) Provide advice to staff and Policy
    Board regarding programs and services
    - Advocacy in Action Network: Keep up-to-date on senior issues at the federal, state or local level. Speak out on senior issues.
