Woman Able to Stay in Home; Gains Mobility
An 81 year old female client is able to stay in her home because she was referred to Southwest 8. She, like so many other seniors, wants to live in her home for as long as possible. They can do so by accepting services through the Case Management Program at Southwest 8 Senior Services.
This particular woman qualified for a variety of services. She has a history of falls, so she received an Emergency Response system, which insures the prompt alert of health care professionals. Her arthritis renders her unable to stand or lift, so Southwest 8 coordinated weekly housekeeping and laundry services in her home. A Home Health Aide helps her with bathing, dressing, and grooming. A Registered Nurse (RN) comes to her home to check her blood twice a month. Lastly, she doesn't have to worry about how she can obtain her incontinency products, because Southwest 8 has arranged for the delivery of these supplies to her home.
Recently, Southwest 8 learned that her wheelchair was in dire need of repair. In the course of obtaining a new chair for this woman, we discovered that she could also qualify for an electric scooter. This has enabled our client to go outside her home independently for the first time in 21 years, something she had been unable to do with a wheelchair, due to her diminished arm strength. She is now able to get out and travel to her doctor's office two blocks from her home. She was even able to attend her town's annual celebration, thanks to her newfound mobility. She wrote a note of thanks to her case manager stating that Southwest 8 has really affected her life for the better.
